WALKs Help Raise Nearly $2 Million

Thanks to our volunteers, 43 WALKs to End Hydrocephalus were held across the U.S., with more than 14,000 participants representing over 1,200 teams. The WALKs helped raise nearly $2 million to support HA’s mission! All 43 HA WALKs are 100 percent volunteer-led by dedicated members of the hydrocephalus community. The WALKs are a way for individuals and families to connect with others living with hydrocephalus, and to help the Hydrocephalus Association get closer to a cure.

Co-chair of the Long Island WALK to End Hydrocephalus

"When I found out there was a WALK on Long Island, of course I went with him and that's where I met my family, my hydrocephalus family. It was an amazing WALK and from 2005 on I've always been involved with the WALK."

Phyllis Rogers

For 16 years, Phyllis Rogers has served as chair of the Denver WALK To End Hydrocephalus, one of HA’s most successful WALKs. In 2018 the Denver WALK raised over $100,000 for HA’s research, support, education and advocacy programs. Phyllis decided to volunteer with the Hydrocephalus Association after turning to us for support and information when her daughter, Jordan, was going through a difficult stage with her hydrocephalus.

Chair of the Hydrocephalus Denver WALK

"In 1994, the Hydrocephalus Association was the only place to turn to get information and educate ourselves, and to talk with someone who understood what we were going through. I have a very special - and deep - relationship with HA and truly believe they are the best organization backing research to find better treatment options, and providing support and education to those of us affected by this condition.”

Passionate Supporters Host Unique Fundraising Events to Support HA

Supporters of the Hydrocephalus Association are both passionate and creative – finding unique ways to raise money for our cause. In 2018, over two dozen exciting fundraising events were held by our supporters – everything from 5K races and golf tournaments to poker games and car races. Among the most successful events was the Trick or Treat for Hydrocephalus organized by Heather Kluter, which involved partnering with schools to collect donations for HA throughout October and raised more than $15,000 for our hydrocephalus programs. Other successful events included the #HydroWarrior Car Show organized by volunteer Cathi Roberts in Burlington, N.C., which brought in over $11,000, and the 20th Annual Thanks for Giving 5K Run in Fitchburg, MA, organized by Amy Maynard, who has a niece with hydrocephalus, which raised more than $4,000.

Iris and Nat Adler

Iris and Nat Adler’s granddaughter, Charlotte, was born with Dandy Walker, a malformation of the cerebellum, which led to hydrocephalus. Since 2016, Iris and Nat have been hosting luncheons and card parties at their Country Club in Boca Raton, FL, to raise funds for our hydrocephalus research efforts. Their 2018 luncheon and card party took place on March 9 at their Country Club in Boca Raton, FL. The event helped educate over 200 club members about hydrocephalus and raise funds to support hydrocephalus research. Attendees took part in a number of activities, such as social bridge, canasta, Mahjong, a silent auction and a raffle.  Through 2018, their card parties and “Cure Charlotte’s Hydrocephalus” letter-writing campaigns, have raised $166,594 for the Hydrocephalus Association.
